Surprised By Win
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright? LONDON. An English schoolmaster, F. S. Field, finished school at Chelsea, London, drove to Henley-on-Thames, and gave a tennis lesson to the young New Zealander, K. Woolcott, in the second round of the men’s singles of the Phyllis hardcourt tennis tournament. The 33-year-old Field, a Worcester county player, amazed at having beaten Woolcott, 6-2, 6-3, said: “I don’t believe it. I’d better keep this quiet.” Field outsteadied the tall New Zealander and showed he was much more at home on the slow hard courts. Another New Zealand casualty was D. Simmonds, who was beaten by R. Krog (South Africa). 3-6, 6-3, 8-6.
