ABORTION BILL
Lords Give Approval
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyrightf LONDON. May 11. The House of Lords tonight approved in principle a bill to liberalise Britain's abortion laws and discourage backstreet abortions, estimated at 100,000 a year. The Government has declared itself neutral on the private members bill, introduced by a Labour peer. Lord Silkin. The bill seeks to legalise abortion where it would save the mother’s life or prevent the risk of serious injury to her physical or mental health, or where the child, if born, might suffer from abnormalities likely to deprive it of reasonable enjoyment of life.
