Countries Called On To Resettle Cubans

(N.Z.PA. Reuter—Copyright) GENEVA, May 11. Senator Edward Kennedy today called on the 30 member government of the International Committee For European Migration (1.C.E.M.) to join with the United States in offering opportunities for resettlement of Cuban refugees.

Senator Kennedy told the LC.E.M. Council, which is meeting in Geneva this week, that more than 750,000 Cubans were waiting to leave their homeland. The United States had al-

ready received nearly 300.000 Cuban refugees. Nearly 1000 more were arriving by air every week and the end of the exodus was not yet in sight.

“More than 750,000 persons are waiting their turn to leave their beleaguered homeland where economic conditions are deteriorating and the Government’s oppression is growing every day,” Senator Kennedy said. The refugees’ plight “should claim the humanitarian concern of all free men.” Senator Kennedy said Spain had absorbed more than 20.000 Cuban refugees. He suggested that LC.E.M. should survey to see if families could be moved to other areas of Europe and Latin America. He said the LC.E.M. should establish a special commission to study non-European migration and refugee problems.
