UNIVERSITY BOOKSHOP

Students’ Half Share (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 11. Students at Auckland University now have a financial share in their own bookshop, with the registration of a new company called University Bookshop (Auckland), Ltd. Half the shares in the £lO,OOO company are owned by the Students’ Association, through Sir Douglas Robb, Mr L. P. Leary, Q.C., and Mr F. V. N. Beasley as trustees, while the remainder are owned by University Bookshop, Ltd., a subsidiary of Whitcombe and Tombs. Ltd. The new bookshop,' which was opened at the end of last year, is housed in a converted Army hut on the university site at Princess street, behind the Students’ Union building. “This is the only university bookshop in New Zealand in which the students have a president of the Students’ financial interest,” said the Association, Mr R. G. Wood, today. “It is not intended to compete with other bookshops in town, but to provide a good service for students and staff.”

Mr I. C. Wesley, chief fire officer of the New Plymouth Fire Brigade, was installed as president of the New Zealand branch of the Institute of Fire Engineers at the branch’s annual conference in New Plymouth yesterday.— (P.A.)
