Election Of Bishop

Sir, —Correspondents have deplored the publishing in “The Press” last Saturday of names of possible “candidates” for the Bishopric of Christchurch. The members of Synod were themselves disturbed of this gross breach of etiquette, but they were assured that no authorised person had supplied these names.—Yours, etc., H. M. COCKS, Vicar-General, Diocese of Christchurch. May 11, 1966. [lf it is a gross breach of etiquette to publish speculation, it is also, presumably, a breach of etiquette to speculate on the election of a bishop; and we doubt if Archdeacon Cocks will maintain that this has not been an absorbing topic of discussion in church circles in recent weeks.—Ed., “The Press.”]
