ASHBURTON SEAT
Six National Nominations (N.Z Press Association) TIMARU, March 14. Six nominations had been received for the National Party candidate for the Ashburton seat when nominations closed at 5 p.m. today. The seat is at present held by the Minister of Lands (Mr Gerard), who has announced his intention to retire before the next General Election. The nominees are Mr C. C. lA. McLachlan (Christchurch), the chairman of the Canter-bury-Westland division of the party; Mr R. L. Talbot (Temuka), the chairman of the Ashburton electorate commiltee; Mr N. S. Brown (Pleasant Point), the deputy-chairman of the committee; Mr G. Humm (Mount Somers); Mr R. E. Buick (Mount Somers), the chairman of the Ashburton County Council: and Mr J. Woodhead (Milford) chairman of the Timaru High School board of governors.
