British Election
Sir, —The diversionary campaign in the economic war has been opened by “The Times” with an editorial which other papers and the New Zealand Press Association have seen fit to copy. It is so full of the platitudes, shibboleths, and cliches which for years have emanated from all parties and circles claiming to represent public opinion that it could be described as the lowest point to which civilisation has sunk in recent years. Not one constructive point has been made. The oracle is content to allow confusion to reign. The election is to be fought concerning the fate of the pound as if it were an end in itself instead of being a means to an end. The logical end should be to enable the people to enjoy the fruits of the labour of all those who have passed this way and of those who tend the machines now. The monetary units of all countries are distributing waste and want under wars and threats of war.—Yours, etc., W. B. BRAY. Leeston, March 12, 1966.
