Too Many Cooks About 60 potential Captain Cooks have applied to play the famous sailor in a film documentary of Cook’s life which is being produced by James A Fitzpatrick, an American. Mr Fitzpatrick, who began his search for a Captain Cook in Wellington last month, said yesterday that he had reduced the list to three, but was “still looking.”—(P. A.) City Smoke Domestic chimneys are easily the main source of smoke and sulphur dioxide in the Christchurch atmosphere, according to a chart in the air pollution section of a display prepared by the chemistry division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, which opened yesterday. A report on the smoke problem, based on a survey undertaken from 1959 to 1964, is being prepared by the de partment's air pollution advisory committee, and will be published shortly. There were two cases of infective hepatitis. One was a woman in her seventies and the other was a man in his twenties. Two men in their sixties had pulmonary tuberculosis, and a female baby had opthalmia neonatorum. Opera Tour The cast of “La Boheme,” left Wellington yesterday for the South Island on the New Zealand Opera Company’s first country tour for 1966. The Puccini opera, with piano accompaniment, will open in Motueka on Tuesday, March 15. Later the opera will be produced at Westport, Greymouth. Ross, Alexandra, Cromwell. Queenstown, Otautau, Tuatapere, Gore, Balclutha, Oamaru, Waimate, Timaru, Ashburton, Methven, Rangiora, Kaikoura, and Blenheim. —(P.A.) Last Brick Yesterday morning, almost seven years to the day since building began, the Assistant Bishop of Auckland (the Rt. Rev. G. R. Monteith) laid the final brick for stage one of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity at Parnell. Bishop Monteith, apparently unperturbed by the height of 80ft, slapped on the mortar and dropped the triangular brick into place on the top of the south gable. In the street below, passers by craned their necks and cars slowed down to see what was happening.— (PA.) Personal Items The Christchurch airport manager (Mr A. I. R. Jamieson), who will be a passenger on an inaugural flight to Hong Kong of Air New Zealand on March 24, will inspect airports at Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore during an absence of three weeks. Mr C. B. Campbell, assistant county clerk to the Ellesmere County Council, has been appointed county clerk to the Akitio County Council at Pongoroa. He will take up his new post on April 21. Mr J. R. Smith, chairman of i the Christchurch Transport Board, has been elected chairman of the Public Passenger Transport Association. Mr Smith, elected at the association's annual conference in Invercargill, will hold office for two years. Mr J. B. Jenkins will serve as a trustee of the Canterbury Trustee Savings Bank : for the rest of the term of Mr W. G. V. Fernie, who rei signed recently after his appointment as a director of the Bank of New Zealand.— (P.A.)
