GISBORNE ’QUAKE

800 Claims Already (N.Z. Press Association? GISBORNE. March 11. More than 800 claims had been received already and the 1000 mark was in sight, said the assistant secretary of the Earthquake and War Damage Commission (Mr F. Burton) today. As claims kept arriving he would now remain in Gisborne until Tuesday, when he would be replaced by another member of the commission's staff, said Mr Burton. “We have organised this local team of brick-layers, carpenters, plasterers, plumbers and builders to work in conjunction with us rather than on their own.” he said. Mr Burton said it was obvious that all damage would not be evident immediately and a reasonable attitude would be adopted by the commission regarding late claims.
