AVOIDING WARRANT
Although he has been seen twice by Lyttelton police, a 20-year-old Dutchman has evaded their efforts to serve him with a committal warrant. Late in January, when two constables arrived at the graving dock where he was work-
ing for a shipbuilding firm, the youth ran away over the port hills. Police dogs brought from Christchurch failed to find him.
Spotted aboard the keeler Beasley County when police made a routine waterfront patrol late last Thursday, the youth dived overboard and disappeared in the darkness among the moored pleasure craft. A police dog again failed to find him.
Yesterday the Beasley County was found to have sailed. Although her destination is not known, it is believed she may be heading for the North Island. Inquiries are continuing. A fortnight ago the 20ft keeler, which has an outboard motor, was towed to safety by the Sumner lifeboat when in difficulties between Cave Rock and Scarborough.
