CAMPAIGN ON HUNGER
Potential Of Youth | The potential of youth for I raising money for the Freeidem From Hunger Campaign i was absolutely tremendous, jthe C.0.R.5.0. organiser for the Canterbury and West Coast district (Mr G. 11. Coley), told an “Operation 21" meeting. The meeting had been called for members of youth groups to plan their contribution to the World Youth Against Hunger campaign, which was officially began on February 26. The campaign will run for 21 weeks. Mr Coley said that the world could not go on with a great many people starving and dying from disease while others rode on the crest of a wave. Through “Operation 21,” any youth group at all could select a project which would help people somewhere in the world who were facing a hopeless future. Mr Coley said that "Operation 21" groups were getting into stride all over Canterbury and the West Coast. As an example of the sort of work these groups were doing, Mr Coley mentioned two boys in Reefton. whose tender for clearing up a cemetery had been accepted by the Inangahua County Council. This money would go to the Freedom From Hunger campaign, he said.
The chairman of the Christchurch committee of "Operation 21" (Mr A. Buckley), said that those present at the meeting, as representatives of various youth organisations, would have to educate their groups on the role of the campaign. They woud also have to give publicity to “Operation 21.” 'and let other people know what was being done
Those at the meeting were requested to go back to their groups and discuss “Operation 21." to discover how much those groups were willing to contribute.
