Private Pilots Compete At Timaru Air Pageant

TIMARU, March 11
The Royal New Zealand AeroClub’s 1966 pageant opened at the Timaru airport today with an ambitious programme of events tor private pitots. More than 70 aero club and private machines from centres throughout the Dominion competed, and it is expected that this number will rise to 100 tomorrow. Two events for professional pitots—aerobatics (D. M. Allan trophy) and navigation (Gloster trophy)—will take place tomorrow. Today’s results were:— Women Pitots’ landing (Newman Cup): Mrs Ann Brod'ie (South Canterbury) 1. Mrs E. Priest (New Plymouth) 2, Mrs A. Morrison (Auckland) 3. Navigation for private pitots (“New Zealand Herald”): G. A. McCleary (South Canterbury) 1, H. Jackson (Middle Districts) 2. A. Watson (Mercury Bay) 3. Navigation for student pilots: G. Davis (Middle Districts) 1, R. Bennett (Otago) 2, B. Borland (Auckland) 3. Forced landing contest (G. N. Spence Cup): R. Manhire (Auckland) 1, W. Morrison (Canterbury) 2, I. Gibling (Wanganui) 3. Aerobatics (Cory Wright Cup): Manhire 1, F. Allan (Middle Districts) 2, J. Hanlon (Otago) 3. Landing contest (Boys Cup): K. Lamb (Auckland) 1, I. Carmichael (Canterbury) 2.
