Boys’ Brigade Camps To Be Held
Up to 100 officers and leaders of the Boys’ Brigade from Mid and North Canterbury are expected to attend training courses at Leigh Camp, Loburn, during the next two week-ends.
The Canterbury Battalion training officer (Mr D. Giblin), said that 60 officers had registered for the Boys’ Brigade basic training course this week-end. This was a considerable increase on the number which attended the course last year. The recently-appointed brigade field officer, Mr H. Nicol will be making his first visit to the South Island when he attends the course. The Boys’ Brigade Solomon Island organiser will also attend the course. On the staff will be two guest instructors, Mr A. B. Allen, a psychologist and Mr T. E. French, of Papanui High School. Other instructors will be Messrs B. Weston, G. K. Frew, D. Seymour, K. Brownlee, D. Borrell and S. E. Dunn.
The chaplain will be the Rev. A. M. Mushet, chaplain at Burnham Military Camp and
the adjutant will be Mr D. L. Aitken. The officer in command will be Mr Giblin.
The badge system and the future will be discussed with the idea of bringing ideas forward for the New Zealand executive to consider in its modernisation plans. The programme includes practical periods and lectures on physical training, the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, drill, programme planning and company organisation, expeditions, company finance and a lecture on knowing the boy. The Life Boys are holding a course for leaders and prospective leaders at Loburn on March 19 and 20.
