Prisoners Moved

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND, March 10.

The first group of security risk prisoners was moved from Waikeria to the Auckland prison under a strong armed guard today. The men will be housed in the new maximum security block completed recently. More prisoners will be moved into the block tomorrow. A senior Justice Department officer said in Wellington that 11 men—the country’s most escape-prone and difficult prisoners—would be kept in the institution. The transfer from Waikeria was carried out under a tight security guard. The prisoners’ vehicle was escorted by police dog vans and cars carrying members of the Auckland police armed offenders’ squad.
