GOLD RUSH RECALLED
Investigations By Planet
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright)
MELBOURNE, March 11.
Nine thousand square miles of the old Victorian goldfields, scene of the big gold rush of the 1850 s, are being investigated again by Planet Mining Company Pty., Ltd., a whollyowned subsidiary of Planet Oil Company N.L.
Most of the mines were flooded and abandoned as a result of the manpower shortage in World War I. Planet’s chairman (Mr J. G. Fuller) said that a proper study will be made of old gold mining records, followed by diamond drilling of the licence areas.
Planet has appointed John Taylor and Sons, of London, as its gold mining consultants.
The Planet concessions cover the Ballarat East goldfields, the Trentham-Black-wood belt, the Taradale-Lausiton-Malmusbury belt, the Pyrenees (St. Arnaud-Avoca-Beaufort) belt, the WalhallaWoods Point belt, the Omeo district and part of the Cas-silis-Haunted River belt.
