Centenarian’s Son To Keep Promise
A promise made six years ago to his 94-year-old father is taking Mr Harold Moore, of 35 Sugden street, to Leicestershire for his father’s 100th birthday in May. Mr Moore will leave Christchurch on the first stage of his journey on Monday.
Mr Moore said that when he and his wife were with his father on his birthday six years ago he promised to be there again when he was 100. “So I’m going to keep my promise.” Mr Edward (Ted) Moore has lived in the same house in Anstey, Leicestershire, for 63 years. His wife died about 14 years ago.

He i then devoted his time to a i 600 square yard garden in i which he grew prize-winning vegetables until about two s years ago, when he gave up s gardening. Mr Moore said his father t still made his own wines, mainly parsnip and elder- ' berry. “He makes real good stuff, and drinks it, too.” He said his father enjoyed excellent health and took a lively interest in cricket and soccer. He still went out to watch games. Mr Edward Moore had 13 ■ children, of whom eight are ■ still living. He has 16 grand- - children, 36 great grandchil- • dren, and two great great i grandchildren. t Mr Harold Moore, the • youngest of his living children, is 56.
