SHOT IN CHEST
Young Man Wounded
A young man was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital last evening with a .303 bullet wound in his chest, about two inches above his heart. The rifle accidentally discharged while he was cleaning it.
The condition of the wounded man, Kelvin Terence Harrison, aged about 22, single, was later reported to be fair. He was conscious. His parents live in Blenheim.
Mr Harrison was admitted to the hospital at 7.10 p.m. He was taken there from a house at 13 Fairfield avenue by a friend who was with him when the rifle discharged on a porch at the back of the house.
Detective-Sergeant B. Murray, of the Christchurch C. 1.8., said the police were satisfied that it was an accident. The rifle had discharged when the muzzle was close to Mr Harrison’s chest.
