Park Terrace Parking
Sir,—Why are cars being allowed to park on the river side of Park terrace, especially near the Armagh street bridge? Here it used to be a no-parking area, and it now makes a one-way lane for cars travelling north. In fact it is difficult, if cars are badly parked, to keep to the left of the central white line. But also, apart from' the traffic problem, the beauty of the sweep of the river with the green lawns and the view of the park is quite destroyed. Has our City Council no idea of keeping the lovely drives that are still left in Christchurch, or must we sacrifice everything to the motor car? —Yours, etc., K. G. N. March 8, 1966.
[The traffic superintendent of the Christchurch City Council (Mr J. F. Thomas) replies: “The short section of Park terrace from Armagh street should, as in the past, be a ‘no parking’ area. It appears the signs were removed when the ‘no stopping’ was implemented. We thank the correspondent for drawing this to our attention and advise that the signs will be replaced as soon as possible.”]
