TECHNOS TROPHY
Award To Auckland
(From Our Own Reporter) AUCKLAND.
The Technos Trophy, for the provincial team doing most to play attractive cricket, has been won by Auckland. The award was announced to a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council’s board of control last evening by Mr J. Newman, president of the council and chairman of the selection panel. The selection committee's report read: “Auckland appeared to have a more assertive attitude in its bowling than the other teams, and batting which was often attractive.
“But the panel was disappointed at the general standard one of the three members abstaining from the vote on the grounds that there was no team in the Plunket Shield competition or elsewhere which bad earned the trophy. “The panel gave serious consideration to recommending that no award be made in a summer of Plunket Shield cricket producing the lowest scoring rate in the 45 years since the competition began on its present basis.” The other members of the selection panel are Messrs D. J. Cameron (New Zealand “Herald,” Auckland), and R. T. Brittenden (“The Press,” Christchurch).
