Defence
Sir,—Your editorial, “Sacrifice for Defence,” is not very clear. “The Press” appears to have a message but also has its reasons for being obscure. Australia has made an official statement on the problem of defence. A task force of 4500 men containing the sth and 6th Battalions, including national servicemen, will replace the Ist Battalion in South Vietnam. Voluntary service for adults and conscription for minors is not my idea of democracy but is an accomplished fact in Aus-
tralia. How democratic are we in New Zealand? —Yours, etc., DIZZY. March 10, 1966.
