To Compete In Australia

Two New Zealand drivers will be in one of the 47 cars competing in the Australian Mobil economy run to be held from March 22 to 25 over a 1600-mile route in Victoria and Queensland. The two are F. Davis, and D. Shields, both of Gore. They were over-all winners of New Zealand’s 1964 economy run, driving a Citroen IDI9. When the consumption of 39.67 m.p.g. was related to the size of their car, they came out with 60.08 ton-miles to the gallon. The two men will be flown to Melbourne where a Citroen IDI9, provided by a local distributor, will await them. A similar vehicle will be driven by two Australians. Other cars in the same class will include a Peugeot 404, a Hillman Deluxe, Volvo, Austin 1800, Triumph 2000 and a Toyota Crown.
