Golden Vanity Runs Well In Training

Golden Vanity, an expensive failure at Motukarara last Saturday, returned to favour for the Waikouaiti Cup with a good gallop at Riccarton yesterday.

Ridden by her race rider, G. W. Mein, she led Hushaway (A. J. Stokes) by a neck and recorded Imin 28 4-ssec for seven furlongs on the outside of the course proper. Golden Vanity had moved from near the nine furlongs and teamed with Hushaway after passing the mile. They sped from the seven furlongs to the half-mile in 37 4-ssec. Their speed felt away slightly in the straight, but both were going well at the end. Golden Vanity looks all the better for her race a Motukarara, and if she settles to race kindly in a good position in the Waikouaiti Cup field she should take beating with 7-7. Hushaway is essentially a drytrack runner, and Ms programme could be revised if there is enough rain at Waikouaiti to affect the ground. General Gilbert (J. Kerkvldet) drew out in the last few strides to lead Early Dawn (D. N. Hadfield) by half a length, finishing seven furlongs in Imin 29 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 52sec. Like Hushaway, General Gilbert races best when he has firm footing. DASHING RUN Shipmate (Stokes) showed characteristic dash in running six furlongs in Imin IS 2-5, the last haM-mffle in 49 l-ssec. Later, Coseta (Swanson) also recorded Imin 14 2-Ssec in a gallop with Agrippa (Hadfield) and Tsunami (Cufflery). Tsunami started with Coseta at the six furlongs, but dropped behind by about a length in the straight, leaving Agrippa, which bad joined at the halfmile, to finish alongside Coseta. The stablemates ran the last half-mile in 51 4-ssec.

Time and Tide (ColiMns) and El Beka (Stokes) were keen to quicken in the straight nearing the end of seven furlongs. Thev took Imin 35 l-ssec and 52 4-ssec for the last haH-male. Any deterioration in the track could help El Beka in Ms bld to win the Bray Hack Handicap at Waikouaiti. Gingerbread (Tucker) sped from the half-mile in 50 S-ssec Krazikid (Low) followed in 50 2-ssec, and Standout (Collins)

accelerated to record 50 3-ssec after working up to it easily from the mile.

The promising stayer, Even Chance (Hadfield) ran half a mite easily in 54 3-fisec. He Is not long back in work, and could do good service for P. H. Jones’s stable in the next few months.

Magic Way (Guillery) was running nicely clear of Together (Hadfield) after running half a mile in 51 3-ssec.

Magic Way, an unraced haffbrother to Castle Air, has made steady improvement lately, and could be a good winner for C. C. McCarthy’s stable.
