Palisade Runs Fast Trentham Trial
“The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON.
Palisade worked well in preparation for the Chalmers Handicap on Thursday of last week, but his trial yesterday for the President’s Handicap was incomparably better and if he runs up to it he should not have much ■trouble achieving a double for the meeting.
Most of the final gallops were on the course proper, but Palisade and Warfare went on the plough. This made it impossible to compare Palisade's work with others for time.
Other good trials were run by Creolian, Grand Filou, Kintyre, and Roganne, and the highweight horses, Faloose and Crafty Queen, also were smart.
The course proper was fast and the horses covered the true distance. Last week they ran a little beyond.
Palisade (A. Powell) and Warfare (Pledger) were together after their plough gallop. Palisade covered seven furlongs in Imin 31isec, collecting Warfare at the half-mile and finishing on terms In SOJsec, the last three furlongs in 36isee. It was an excellent trial.
Creolian (Willetts) was doing better than Udare (N. Riordan), which he joined at the six furlongs, when completing a mile in Imin 42sec, the last half in 59isec and the three furlongs in 37sec. .
A comparable gallop was that of Grand Filou (Willetts) with Castle Dee (N. Riordan) and De Filou (Woolhouse). They ran almost the same times, the mile in Imin 41 4-ssec, the half in 51sec and the last three in 37sec.
Kintyre (Holmes) was brilliant over seven furlongs in Imin 28J sec, but was easing after the last half-mile in Slisec.
Faloose (Heape) under a heavier weight, ran a mile in Imin 47sec, the last three In 38sec, and Crafty Queen (Willetts) was doing a little better than Flying Gib ißiordan), which she joined at the six furlongs at the finish of a mile trial in Imin 46isec, the last three furlongs in 37isec.
The St. Leger favourite, Terrific (Willetts), ran keenly at 15sec to the furlong and completed with half a mile in 50J sec, the last three furlongs in 36isec.
Roganne (Riordan) and the two-year-old, Mary Poppins (Willetts), were together after five furlongs in Imin 4 l-ssec, the last four in 48)sec and three in Sfiisec.
