Soiree Riviera
An evening with a French flavour —soiree Riviera —ushered the 450 women celebrating the St. Andrew’s College jubilee into an atmosphere of gaiety and romance.
Stepping into a casino scene in the foyer of the badminton hall at Cowles Stadium, guests were shown to their places at small tables surrounding a long ramp decorated in readiness for a parade of autumn and winter fashions. Huge seaside murals in bold blue-white and yetlowblack relief covered the walls, and the ceiling was hung with glowing coloured lights and balloons. Buffet tea—a typical French menu—was served with French wines to the accompaniment of a fiddler who moved from table to table. Before the main parade of high fashion, models showed a selection of beach wear
Both parades were compered by Margaret Barrer, with background music played by Maise McNair. Official guests included Mesdames W. J. Mac Gibbon, 1. T. Galloway, G, A. M. Hilson, J. S. Wilton, L. W. Stewart, G. Burns, W. S. MacGibbon, J. Cairn, W. A. C. McDonald. G. 0. Morrison, W. D. Redpath. Members of the organising committee were: Mesdames E. R. Mars (convenor), C. F. Hart, J. T. Andrews, J. W. Rainey. T. Wilson, J. F. Collins, P.' W. Hilson, A. G. Gillies, O. Musgrove,' Dr. W. H. Brockett, Dr. J. R. Turner, Messrs R. W. Pannell, D. C. Parker, J. S. Callaway, G. W. Riley (secretary). The murals were designed by Mr G. Barton, art master at St. Andrew’s College.
