Good Prices At Ashburton Fair
Good quality sheep made excellent prices at the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Ram and Stud Ewe Fair (woolbreeds section), held at the Ashburton Showgrounds yesterday. Prices in the top bracket were the best for many years at the fair, several being over 60gns. Top price of the sale went to J. Lawler, of Gore, who sold a one-shear Romney ram at 72gns. There was a reasonable demand for medium quality sheep throughout the sale though towards the end there was a slight easing in prices and demand. Although there were several passings, at the conclusion of the sale there were very few pens left unsold. Vendors came from as far afield as Nelson, Banks Peninsula and Waimate, but most of the sheep were brought by local buyers. Several sheep were withdrawn from the sale before the commencement There was a small entry of 40 pens in the Corriedale section. The top price in this section went to Estate H. R. Little of Harwarden. who sold two one-shear Corriedales at 40gns. All of the entries were in the flock ram section. There were no stud entries.
