LIFE ON VENUS

Scientists Differ

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Mar. 10.

Strange creatures may swim about in the dense atmosphere of Venus, says the National Geographic Society. The society says that whereas fish, whales and other creatures live suspended in water, space scientists point out that on Venus living things may float in the thick clouds that completely hide the planet’s surface. Scientists differ on whether life could exist on Venus, the planet which approaches nearest to earth. Some astronomers suggest it might be covered by jungles, others that Venus is more like a dustbowl.

One theory, says the society, is that life once existed on Venus and was annihilated, possibly by the Venusians themselves through some development similar to the hydrogen bomb.
