NEW SYDNEY SCHEME
Underground Development (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Mar. 10. Sydney, which is rapidly becoming a miniature Manhattan with soaring skyscrapers filling the skyline, is now going underground. A £2.4 million scheme for an underground development plan, comprising 70 shops and a four-deck parking station was approved in principle by the City Council’s health committee this week. The scheme will be under the city's famous Hyde Park and Elizabeth street, which runs adjacent to it. Entrances to the shopping area will be by underground arcades so that pedestrians will not have to cross nearby busy streets. The car park will have room for 1500 vehicles.
