Jute Destroyed
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, March 10.
Flames roared through a deep hold of the Union Steam Ship Company’s motor vessel Wainui at Aotea quay about 4 p.m. today and severely damaged 40 bales of jute. Firemen fought the blaze for nearly an hour and a half before they got it under control.
Smoke forced firemen to wear breathing apparatus.
The master of the Wainui, Captain F. J. Agnew, said that the jute was about to be discharged when the fire broke out. “It was the last bit of cargo on board and it was all destroyed,” he said.
