PIT WANTED FOR TIP
Council Plans Take-over The Paparua County Council will take legal action to acquire a gravel pit operated by the firm of Smart and Sons. The council wants the pit to provide week-end rubbish dumping facilities for ratepayers. Or. D. H. Warren said such facilities were clearly needed and suggested that consideration be given to the opening of Smarts’ pit for controlled dumping on Sundays. The county clerk (Mr A. Kelly) said that little cooperation had been received from representatives of the company on the question of the purchase of the pit by the council. The council decided to take action to acquire the pit with the exception of the area surrounding the crushing plant. It also decided to take action for the recovery of the land leased by the Christchurch Speedway Association and the rental owing.
Bureau Plan.— The Presbyterian Social Services Association would establish an accommodation bureau for young Presbyterians in Christchurch, the monthly meeting of the Presbytery of Christchurch was told on Tuesday.
