BROADFIELD SCHOOL
Council Accepts Board Offer An old schoolhouse at Broadfield has been offered by the Canterbury Education Board for the use of residents in the area. The school, which is nearly 100 years old, is situated on four acres and a half of land but is no longer used by the board. The Paparua County Council was told that the board would hand over the property to any responsible organisation prepared to control it. The Broadfield Community Centre committee had asked the council to accept the vesting of the property and give a local committee the opportunity of handling its operation and maintenance. The council’s building inspector said he had looked at the school and found it in poor condition. Structural repairs were essential, toilets would have to be provided and considerable interior and exterior decoration was necessary. The council agreed to accept title of the property and decided to invite representatives of the Broadfield Community Centre committee to discuss the position further.
