Dalvui Wins 2nd Leg Of £54 Napier Double

(N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS. The T.A.B. double on the second day of the Napier Park Racing Club’s meeting at Hastings yesterday was won by the Feild-ing-owned and trained Sparkling Maid and the locally-owned and trained Dalvui. The combination paid £54 8s for £l.

Sparkling Maid which had won this race last year, again showed her brilliance with a powerful burst from behind, to win by more than a length from Shut, with Baloo finishing well from an awkward position to her third. Sir Barton ran an improved race for fourth ahead of High Disdain (last at the half-mile), El Ganador and Otakiri Boy. Dalvui sprinted past the first day winner, Combination, to win the Stewards’ Handicap easily, with 'Gold Dowa finishing on for third. Hooplah was fourth, and Prince Mahmoud fifth. The off-course substitute, Royal Pursuit, led to the turn, i but again ran greenly and was 'soon beaten. The on-course double was j won by Travelling Light, i which had finishing second on • the first day, and Ta Vince, a winner over six furlongs on I the first day, and the double paid £lO3 4s 6d. The on-course totalisator | handled £38,790 which was £136 more than on the corresponding day last year. The T.A.B. total was £107,596 15s, a decrease of £648 5s on last year’s total.
