Bilby May Not Play
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Because of a minor and unexpected operation, G. P. Bilby, the New Zealand opening batsman, may not be available for the third test against England which starts tomorrow. T. W. Jarvis, the Auckland and former New Zealand opener, has been asked to stand by in case Bilby does not pass a medical examination tomorrow morning. Soon after he arrived in Auckland yesterday Bilby had a minor operation and returned to his motel soon afterwards. There seems a reasonable chance that he will be fit to play.
G. A. Bartlett will also have to pass a fitness test tomorrow morning. Bartlett is suffering from a slight groin injury. M. C. Cowdrey, who was suffering from a heavy cold at Dunedin, said yesterday that he was feeling much better and would be fit to play on Friday. Similarly, M. J. F. Shrimpton has recovered from the stomach complaint which affected his play in the second test.
