EXPORT SCHEME

Car Parts For Aust. (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 9. The Ford Motor Company may try to interest the Government in the manufacture of car parts in New Zealand for export to Australia. The president of the Ford Motor Company (Mr A. Miller) said when he arrived in Wellington from the United States that today his company was prepared to start such a scheme at any time. Similar schemes had been set up among South American countries and between the United States and Canada. As a result cars had become considerably cheaper in Canada, Mr Miller said. Mr Miller said he would meet members of the Government during his stay in Wellington but would not mention the scheme unless it was first brought up by members of Parliament. “It will be a very long time before a complete car can be built in New Zealand,” he said. “But one might hope that there is some scope for co-operation between Australian and New Zealand markets."
