Revision Of Electoral Rolls Starts Today
The triennial task of ascertaining the whereabouts of! every elector in New Zealand ■ begins today. This will enable district re-! gistrars to draw up the electoral rolls for the general Parliamentary election later this year. In the Christchurch area alone, the acting registrar of electors (Mr F. G. Elsmore) will today begin sending out more than 140.000 notices to people whose names were on the last electoral roll or who have since registered as elec-, tors.
Mr Elsmore warns that! people who fail to return the! notices could have their names struck off the roll. Every person over the age of 21 is legally hound to bej on the roll. Mr Elsmore said, electors were required to sup-
ply the information sought on | the notices and return them ias soon as possible. "We urge people not to put the notices behind the mantelpiece clock and forget about them. This and similar thoughtlessness will only hold up the process of compiling the rolls,” he said. Provision will be made for people who have moved to another electorate and have resided there for three months, to enrol in that electorate.
If the elector is still re- , siding at the same address and returns the reply notice, his or her name will be printed on the main roll. The registrar will record changes of address for electors who complete the notice showing that they have shifted to another house in the same electorate.
