SUITABLE FOR PARTRIDGES
(New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, March 7. The Takaka valley has been selected as a suitable area for partridges and 100 birds will be liberated there in the near future.
The Wildlife Division’s game officer for New Zealand, Mr R. W. S. Cavanagh, said that after his inspection of the Takaka valley, he was quite happy with it as a site for partridges. In the Takaka valley the partridges would be in a confined area and that would facilitate the checking on the survival of the birds after liberation and their future production. “The proposal is we will soon be liberating 100 partridges from our game farm at Bulls.” Partridges had been liberated in other areas, he said. Birds liberated in the Gisborne district had disappeared. but a number liber-
s ated in the Wairoa area had established themselves. J Further liberations would be made at Wairoa, he said.
