‘Better Prices For Lamb’

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, March 7. Amid a continuing strong demand, New Zealand is now securing increased prices for lamb in Canada and the United States, according to the chairman of the Meat Export Development Company (N.Z.), Ltd. (Mr N. A. Thomson).

The company is a consortium of freezing companies and the Meat Board, formed to promote lamb sales in North America.

Mr Thomson said yesterday promotion in the Buffalo region in the United States had produced active interest from supermarkets. Special promotions were also under way in Rochester and in Vancouver, Canada. Further campaigns in Toronto and in Hamilton, in Eastern Canada, would begin in

April when sufficient stocks were again available. Prices were showing a good margin over those at the same time last year. Development work of the company and of the Meat Board was yielding “good and profitable” results and returns currently exceeded those generally available elsewhere. At the launching of the sales scheme in Vancouver, 2000 housewives had queued to attend a demonstration of cooking New Zealand lamb.
