Johnny Gee Again

Johnny Gee gained his third win from his last four starts when he wore down Phenoma and Direct Globe in the Charlotte Jane Handicap. It was a smart effort on the part of the Johnny Globe four-year-old as he lost a length or two as he came round the tiring Rannach Lad near the straight entrance. Direct Globe set all of the pace trailed by Phenoma. They looked to have the finish to themselves until Johnny Gee challenged about the half-furlong. Phenoma held second by a length from Direct Globe, with a length and a half to Tronso, which made up ground. Alvean was beaten off fifth, shading Betty’s Song, with another break to Seven Nights and Rannach Lad, which pulled hard in the open in the middle stages and was beaten two furlongs out. Karen Brigade, Towser, Trapper, Wayleggo and Marcus Aurelius were among those to make mistakes early.
