Mr Kirk’s Reply (N.Z. Prett Association’ WHANGAREI. March 8 “Although I can appreciate how anxious the Prime Minister must be to generate a smokescreen, he cannot be allowed to put words into my mouth.” the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) said in Whangarei today. Mr Kirk was commenting on Mr Holyoake’s remarks that Mr Kirk had quoted in correct figures for national majorities in Taupo, Gisborne and Rotorua. “If the Prime Minister bothers to check the facts he will see that I did not, as he avers, use the figures relai ing to majorities in certau trembling National seats’ Mr Kirk said. “We all know the Pnnu Minister lias an endless capa city to dwell in the past and play on trivia, but this docs not excuse such gross inaccuracy.
“It would be more comforting for New Zealand if, in stead of misinterpreting everything that is said, he could get his Government to face up to the problems of the present and the challenge of the future.”
