WOOL SALES IN AUCKLAND
Average Lower: Return Up (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 8. Although the average price has been lower by about 1.45 d per lb, the six Auckland wool sales held so far this season have earned almost £1.35m more than the comparable sales last season. The total Auckland wool cheque to date is £8,355,265, compared with £7,011.240 for the first six sales of the 196465 season. The Auckland cheque from the nine sales held last season totalled £11,332.912. The average price over the first six sales, however, has declined from 42.555 d per lb last season to 41.123 d per lb. The fifth main sale, held on February 15, returned a cheque of £1,482,752, said Mr A. C. Rains, secretary of the Auckland Wool Brokers’ Association. A total of 25.735 bales was offered, of which 25,204 bales were sold, giving a total weight sold of 8,964,3081 b. Average 39.7 d Average price was 39.70 d per lb. The average bale of wool weighed 355.671 b and sold for £5B 16s 6d. At the February sale last season, the average price was higher, at 39.8 d, but with only 24.396 bales sold, the total return was lower at £1,403,871. Average weight of each bale was also lower last year, at 347.031 b.
