Peter Pan In Court

(N.Z PA. Reuter —Copyright)

LONDON, March 8. The Hollywood cartoon producer, Walt Disney, in a London High Court yesterday, moved to prevent a London hospital for sick children from producing a film entitled “Peter Pan.” The copyright of the fairy story play, created more than 60 years ago by a British author. Sir James Barrie, was given to the hospital by Barrie who died in 1937. The hospital wants to produce a Peter Pan film starring Audrey Hepburn. Lawyers for Walt Disney Productions told the Court the hospital could not produce the film under the name of “Peter Pan.”

The hospital’s counsel told the Court the main issue was over an agreement made in 1939.

In it the hospital granted to Walt Disney Productions for £5OOO the exclusive licence

to make animated cartoons of Barrie’s works. Walt Disney Productions did not object to the film being made, but it could not be called “Peter Pan." The hearing will continue today.
