KOREAN TROOPS
Vietnam Increase (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) SEOUL, March 7. The United States today pledged to step up military and economic aid to South Korea in return for the dispatch of an additional 20,000 South Korean troops to Vietnam, United Press International reported.
The American pledge, promptly accepted by the Koreans, came in a Note delivered to the Korean Foreign Minister, Lze Tongwon by the United States Ambassador, Mr Winthrop Brown. The Note promised that the United States would see to it that the further commitment of Korean troops would in no way prejudice South Korea’s security or economic development. South Korea already has some 23.000 troops in Vietnam. On a recent visit, VicePresident Hubert Humphrey discussed the despatch of reinforcements with Korean leaders.
