Tunku’s Retirement Suggested
(X.Z.P. A. -Reuter — Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, Mar. 8. A suggestion that the Malaysian Premier, Tunku Abdul Rahman, should resign has been raised in his own party, and in his own home town. The suggestion is in the form of a resolution to be discussed by the North Kedah State youth section of the Tunku’s United Malays’ National Organisation on Thursday. The resolution, framed by a member of the youth section executive, urges the United Malays' National Organisation to appoint the; Tunku “supreme adviser” to I the Government with hisi deputy. Tun Abdul Razak, to’ renlace him as Premier. The Tunku aged 63. re-' cently named Tun Razak, aged
33, as his political heir, but said he had no intention of leaving office himself at this time.
The member who proposed the resolution said the reasons for it were that the Tunku had named Tun Razak as a definite successor, which meant he had agreed to retire, and other parties in the Government coalition had said they would accept Tun Razak as Prime Miniser. “If Tun Razak is now appointed Premier it will not mean the loss of the Tunku’s services to the country. “After all, he will still be available to guide and advise the country.” said the member. Wan Yahaya Buin Wan Harun. No immediate comment was available from Government and party leaders in Kuala Lumpur.
