SEAT IN U.N.
Russia Backs E. Germany '.N Z P A -Reuter —Copyright) NEW YORK. March 7. The Soviet Union today supported East Germany’s application for full membership of the United Nations. A letter from the Soviet delegate, Dr. Nikolai Fedorenko, to the president of the Security Council asked the council to take up East Germany's application made a week ago. Dr. Fedorenko also backed the East German suggestion that West Germany should join the United Nations. Firm opposition from Britain, France and the United States, who have veto powers and do not recognise East Germany as a State, has made it certain that East Germany will not be able to attain the approval of the council. Nevada Test.—The United States Atomic Energy Commission conduced an underground nuclear test of low yield yesterday at its test site in Nevada. The explosion had a force equivalent to less than 20.000 tons of tn.t —Washington. March 8.
