Visit By Queen Mother A march past of youth organisations will end the public welcome, the main function organised by the City Council for the Queen Mother's brief ! visit to Christchurch next month. Mr M. B. Hayes, the actingTown Clerk, said yesterday that the city’s public welcome to the Queen Mother would be in Victoria square on the. morning of April 23 before she left for the trotting meeting at Addington. The welcome is timed to begin at 11 a.m., when the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) will read a formal address from a dais in front of the town hall car park site. The Queen Mother will make a formal speech of reply, and the whole reception is expected to last about 45 minutes. The Queen Mother will arrive in Lyttelton in the Royal yacht, Britannia, early on April 23. The likely route for the Oueen Mother's trip to the city is through the road tunnel. Ferry road. Fitzgerald avenue. Chester street. Oxford terrace and over the Co’omhn street bridge. After the civic welcome she will travel to the Addington Raceway alone Oxford terrace Hae’ey avenue and Lincoln road. On her return to the Royal vacht about 4 p.m., the Queen Mother is expected to travel along Wrights road, Lincoln road. Moorhouse avenue. Ferry road, and through the tunnel.
On her wav to a combined service in the Christchurch Cathedral on Sundav morning. the Queen Mother will nrobably travel bv the road tunnel, Dvers road. Linwood avenue, and Worcester street, returning by Colombo street Thorrington road, Cashmere road, through the grounds of Princess Margaret Hospital, back to Cashmere road, Centaurus road. Port Hills road and the tunnel.
