Weights For Easter

New Zealand-owned and bred horses figure high in the early betting lists for two rich Randwick races to be run at Easter, after declaration of weights by the Australian Jockey Club yesterday. The races, both worth £16,000, are the Doncaster Handicap, over one mile, on April 9, and the two-mile Sydney Cup on April 11. The Summertime gelding, Fair Summer, which has 8-6, is on the first tine of favouritism with Eye Liner, Gipsy Queen, Star Affair and Winfreux in the Doncaster Handicap. Red Crest, which won the twomile Wellington Cup with 7-7 on January 22, will carry 8-4 in the Sydney Cup, and is at present oh the second line of favouritism, with Midlander and Versailles. Prince Grant, which has weight-forage at 8-2, is favourite in the early market. Time and Tide has top weight in the Doncaster Handicap for the second successive year, and will carry 9-6 —two pounds more than he carried to victory last year. But his trainer. H. Plant, said yesterday he would not run. Craftsman tops the weights in the Sydney Cup with 9-4, followed by the New Zealand-bred Melbourne Cup winner, Light Fingers. 9-1. then More Head 9-0, and the former New Zealand champion three - year - old, Empyreus, with 8-12.
