MANNEQUIN PARADE
A dull cool afternoon after morning rain reduced the attendance at an otherwise successful mannequin parade held in the colourful garden setting of the home of Mr A. W. B. and Miss N. McMillan, Cuiverden, recently. Mrs M. Bethell, a patroness, opened the parade of autumn wear modelled by Mrs E. Thomas and Miss Marilyn Monk, “Miss Westland,” and by the local mannequins. Mrs G. P. Dampier-Crossley (Hurunui Branch President), Mrs J. H. Davison, Misses Penny Davison and Jan. Hartnell. A preview of next season’s American swimwear was given and Miss D. Cunningham demonstrated the application of make-up. Accompaniment to the parade was given by Fijian musicians, and Mrs M. Kemp. Afternoon tea was served at garden tables. Mrs A. E. Hill, president of the Cuiverden sub-branch, presented sprays to the compere, Mrs Barren, Miss McMillan, the mannequins and thanked Mr and Mrs D. Knight, whose firm, the Hanmer Springs Fashion Centre, sponsored the parade. A pottery table lamp raffle was won by Mrs A. C. Hamilton and a vanity case by Mrs Crockett.
