British Couple Adopt Vietnamese Orphan

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

LONDON, Mai’ch 7.

A Vietnamese orphan girl will soon be on her way to Britain to start a new life in Yorkshire’s west riding.

The six-month-old child has been adopted by a British couple, Mr and Mrs Postill, of Boston Spa, near Leeds. The couple, who married two years ago, decided they would adopt a child first, and have children of their own later. But every British adoption society refused them because they were still capable of having their own children. Then Mrs Postill’s sister-in-law, a secretary at the British Embassy in Saigon, wrote to her about the thousands of orphans there. The couple wrote to Souh Vietnamese authorities asking if they could adopt a child, and after months of delay permission was granted. Among the problems to be overcome, was a restriction that under Vietnamese law, a couple who wants to adopt

a child must have been married at least 10 years, and the wife has to be more than 25. Mrs Postill is 21. Mrs Postill’s sister-in-law, Miss Lyne Postill, adopted the child by proxy.
