Brighton Has Firm Grip On Indoor Soccer
One more win from the two matches it has still to play will give Hew Brighton victory in the major league indoor soccer series. Brighton removed one of its, two challengers at Cowles Staci-1 lum last evening by beating Hornby United, 5-2, and can now be overhauled only by High School Old Boys, a 4-1 victor over Western. However, New Brighton, unbeaten after eight games has a three-point lead over H. 5.0.8. and each has two games to play. They are followed by Hornby, which has now dropped six points behind Brighton and out of the championship race. The results of last evening's games were:— Police 0, Shlrley-Nomads 0; Waterside 4 (W. Caine’s 22 Coals A penalty goal scored by Moller, and then two brilliant goals by Caine, bringing his total to 22 for the series, put Brighton on the high road io victory over Hornby in the mam game of the evening. However. Hornby did not give up without a tremendous fight and got back with 2-3 with goals by Quirk (one a fierce shot from 20 yards which hit the underneath of the bar and rebounded into the net). For the next 15 minutes both teams played some of the finest soccer of the indoor series, add onl . y ln ,he dying stages that Hornby finally wilted for Taylor and Conley to complete Brighton's triumph. H. 5.0.8. were always too fast and too skilful for Western, and had no real difficulty winning 4-1. Western's players were too easily bundled off the ball and lacked the cohesion of their opponents. The fastest goal of the evening was Chee's first for Technical against Shamrock. Within five seconds of the start Chee had the ball In the Shamrock net. being only the second player to have touched the ball.
