TROTTING Mokoreta Wins At Spotswood

Mokoreta, a candidate for the Pilgrims’ Stakes at Addington Raceway tomorrow showed promise of an early win when he shaded another Addington candidate in Kimberley Kid in the Spotswood Two-year-old Handicap at Spotswood on Saturday. Mokoreta was in or near the lead all the way and he held on gamely to shade Kimberley Kid, which finished solidly along the rails from a handy position. Kelway Bay made up ground for a close third, ahead of El Tapado, Lucky Gay, Athentic and Pro Consul.

Local Frost, the early favourite for the Addington race, was prominent to the furlong, but then he was stopped by tiring horses and was not persevered with.

The second , leg of the double, the Thunder Handicap, was won by Morant, a member of G. Holmes’s Templeton team. He was driven by B. Glidden. The Mokoreta Morant double paid £29 6s for £l. King’s Cord showed his fitness for immediate engagements when he gained a win

and a third from long handicaps in the two races for trotters. His stablemate, Queen’s Cord, showed that she had recovered fully from her trip to Sydney when she shaded Viewin in the Ladies’ Free-for-all. The meeting was held in fine weather before a fair attendance. The track was in good order after recent rain. Results:— KAIKOURA HANDICAP, £35; trotters: 2:20 class; 12f. — KING’S CORD 72 J. H.
