INSPECTION
(N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, March 6. The Minister in Charge of the Earthquake and War Damage Commission (Mr Rae) arrived in Gisborne just before noon today on a personal inspection tour of the damage caused by yesterday's earthquake. Mr Rae had been in the Auckland district viewing flood damage there, and broke his return journey to Wellington in response to a call from Mrs E. I. Tombleson, the member for Gisborne. Mr Rae, accompanied by the Mayor (Mr H. H. Barker) made an inspection of the city and damaged buildings.
One of the places visited was the home of Mr R. R. Kearney in Cheeseman road, where the chimney crashed through the roof into a bedroom yesterday. At the Kearney restdence the Minister assured the people of Gisborne of prompt atten. tion of claims made to the commission and he said that assessors would be available in Gisborne tomorrow for those who wished to make claims. Mr Rae said he was pleased to see that damage was not as great as reports would indicate and that no serious injury or loss of life occurred.
